A MESSAGE FROM UNSUI

In 2009, Jinenkan Dojocho Adam Mitchell opened the new location for the New York Jinenkan Dojo. His teacher wrote a letter to the students of the Dojo and an explanation of the name he had chosen for it.

To the members of Adam’s Dojo,

Historically, in Japan, when one goes about learning any kind of art, an “ichi ryū” or top level Sensei would be selected. With this in mind I feel that you all have chosen an extremely good Sensei. Adam Sensei is fair, considerate, has a strong sense of justice and possesses bravery. For this reason the slightly long name “Jinenkan Kōsei Gōgi Dōjō” was selected. Please trust in Adam Sensei, and if you firmly ingrain his teachings into your body, you will become a great person.

For myself, when a person’s time to die comes, being able to say “I am satisfied, thank you everyone” is the highest attainment of one’s life. In addition, I feel that it is much better to do and then regret it rather than not do and regret that inaction. Consider this, if you will, and please continue to the end. Continuation is power.

JISSEN KOBUDO JINENKAN

Literally translated, Jinenkan means "Hall of Nature" and represents Unsui Sensei's feeling of his martial arts being like the natural flow of the elements. Just as the wind can pass around any obstacle and leave no trace, or alternately can destroy anything in its path.
